The Philadelphia
Center for the Photographic Image (PCPI) and the City Paper proudly
announce PHOTOIMAGE ‘06, a celebration of the Mid Atlantic Region’s
best photography. There is a private artist reception at the Nexus
Gallery on Thursday, April 6th, from 6 to 9 PM. The
artist’s reception is open to press, sponsor’s of the event,
PCPI
members and all participating artists. Prizes will be awarded at 8 PM. The
exhibit opens to the public on Friday, April 7th and runs through April
30th.

Philadelphia’s premier juried photography competition, reunites
PCPI, the City Paper, and Nexus Gallery, who co-sponsored the event
two years ago. “We are excited to work again with the City Paper
and Nexus,” said Al Wachlin Jr., PHOTOIMAGE ‘06 Coordinator. “This
event has always been a big success and this year the quality and diversity
of the work is even better. Our jurors, Philly natives and fine art
photography
icons Ray K. Metzker and Ruth Thorne-Thomsen, had a hard time selecting the
44 final exhibition images from hundreds of entries.”
PCPI is a member-based nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering the knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the photographic arts by offering education, exhibitions, and a facility. PCPI also runs the acclaimed EXPOSURE Outreach Program, which teaches youth from North Philadelphia the use of photography as an art form and a means of self-expression.

HEAT: Tuesday nights at Nexus from 7-11 PM $5 (NOTE: the event
does not happen during installation week). The HEAT is the 2nd and 3rd
Tuesday of every month from 7-11pm with a $5 cover. The first hour is
for artists to network, hear various speakers, and to get plugged into
the rich vibrant arts community of Philadelphia. Open mic starts PROMPTLY
