Bonnie Brenda Scott - The Wilderness Society

The work presented in this exhibition probes the contemporary sense of "Wilderness" – one that incorporates the forces of Urban and Natural decay. Paintings on found street trash, construction site debris, hunting paraphernalia and a series of other-worldly animal figures are presented within a massive, multi-media installation that is used to illustrate humanity's interaction with the untamed.

Intricate, "meditatively obsessive" line work and bright, almost poisonous seeming colors are used to create both flat and three-dimensional images that evoke an exaggerated biology, while touching on themes of safety and fear.

Bonnie Brenda Scott, a member of NEXUS Foundation for Today's art and new member to the Chinatown based artist co-op Space 1026, graduated from the University of the Arts in 2006 with a BFA in film and digital video. She has shown her video work, drawings, and prints in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Houston, Austin, Palm Springs and San Francisco. Her work will be on view at Little Berlin Gallery in early April.
